Tech Crew

Des Moines Metro Opera hires approximately 60 theater technicians to work the carpentry, electrics, properties, flys, wardrobe and wigs & make-up crews each summer. It’s a great opportunity to use your theatrical skills to gain experience working in a professional environment. Crew members are in residence at the Summer Fesival site from late May though mid-July. Housing and stipend are provided.

DMMO seeks a Technical Director for its 2009 Educational Tour with OPERA Iowa. The tour includes performances of Patterson’s A Dream Fulfilled and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Contract dates are mid-January through mid-April 2009.  The Technical Director's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the creation of the touring scenery, creating props for all productions, creating simple light design and supervising/participating in load-in and load-out of scenery at each tour site.  Loads are done with the assistance of a volunteer crew.  DMMO provides a fee ($500/week), travel stipend for travel to and from Indianola and housing and per diem while on the tour.
