OPERA IOWA MUSICAL DIRECTOR & APPRENTICE MUSICAL COACH

Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc. seeks a Music Director for its 2013 Education Tour with OPERA Iowa. Dates of the engagement are from early January through mid-April 2013. Performances will include Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love and Davies’ The Three Little Pigs. Both productions are sung in English. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: musical preparation and piano accompaniment for all productions, and participation in educational workshops. The ideal candidate will possess proven leadership abilities, the ability to make decisions under pressure, and demonstrate adaptability to scheduling changes, in addition to excellent coaching skills. DMMO provides a fee ($500/week), travel stipend for travel to and from Indianola, and housing and per diem while on the tour.

Ideally, the musician selected for the Music Director position would return to DMMO during the summer season of 2013 as the Apprentice Musical Coach. As a member of a talented staff of musical coaches and stage directors, the Apprentice Musical Coach contributes in the preparation of scene assignments within the Apprentice Artist Program for singers as well as assisting as a pianist on the mainstage rehearsals of the Summer Festival. This position provides significant professional experience and learning opportunities for talented young musicians.

To apply, please send a resume with references and cover letter to: Michael Egel, Artistic Director, Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., 106 West Boston Ave, Indianola, IA 50125. For more information, call 515-961-6221.
