There are just 5 performances left in the 37th Festival Season...and there are just a handful of tickets remaining.

We often have subscribers who wish to exchange their tickets for another date, or patrons who must release their tickets due to an unavoidable conflict, and we can often find seats for those on the waiting list. Masterclass with Sherrill Milnes

Tuesday, July 7, 1:00 pm in Lekberg Hall

Des Moines Metro Opera is pleased to announce a masterclass within the James M. Collier Apprentice Artist Program conducted by acclaimed opera star Sherrill Milnes.

Universally acclaimed as the foremost operatic baritone of his generation, Mr. Milnes will be in residence with the Company working with artists selected to participate in the 2009 Summer Festival Season.

The class will be held July 7, 2009, at 1:00 pm in Lekberg Hall in the Amy Robertson Music Center on the Simpson College campus in Indianola. Patrons are invited to observe. For more information, call the Des Moines Metro Opera offices at (515) 961-6221.

This is the final week of the 37th Festival Season, and what a season it has been! The performances have been amazing, the audiences have been enthusiastic, and we couldn't ask for more.

We'll announce the 38th Festival Season line-up to our email list first, so stay tuned! Mark your calendar now for the summer of 2010: June 25- July 18.

Stars of Tomorrow Orchestral Concert

Thursday, July 9, 7:00 pm at Sheslow Auditorium

This is your chance to see the operatic stars of the future! The Apprentice Artist Program is the essential fabric of Des Moines Metro Opera and for one special evening their exceptional talents shine on their own. The Apprentice Artists take the spotlight at center stage for the annual Stars of Tomorrow concert. Accompanied by the Festival Orchestra, the evening offers its own unique program of scenes from popular operas, making the night the perfect event for the whole family. Seats are just $20 for adults and $10 for students. Click here for tickets.


Free Opera Previews

Are you looking for a little insight into the the opera before you attend? Then check out our Free Opera Previews!

Held 45 minutes prior to each performance, the previews are led by the assistant stage director and the assistant conductor. They're fun and informative and will give you hints about what to listen for and what you'll see onstage. The previews are held just across the street from Blank Performing Arts Center in the Brenton Student Center on Simpson College's campus.

Dine in "The Tent"

One of the things that makes an afternoon or evening at the opera so special is the chance to enjoy a meal at LaVal Alfresco, DMMO's very own restaurant. Located in an air-conditioned tent right next door to the theater, having a delicious brunch or dinner before the show couldn't be more convenient!

Chef Michael LaValle, the culinary director of the Des Moines Embassy Club, has created themed dinner menus to coordinate with each opera. $40 per person.

Chef Burton Potter is the man behind our brunch buffet, offering dishes inspired by each of the opera's settings, as well as an omelet bar and more. $25 per person.
