Opera Appreciation Class

Whether you're an opera buff or a complete newcomer, it is fascinating to learn about opera from people "in the know!" DMMO's Director of Artistic Operations, Michael Egel, will be teaching "What Makes an Opera," offered by the Senior College of Greater Des Moines. The class will meet on Tuesdays, from 10 am to noon, beginning on September 15 and running through October 6. All aspects of opera will be covered – music, production and development. The cost is just $48. To register, call (515) 244-0631 or visit www.myseniorcollege.com.

"The Met Live in HD" Broadcasts

Iowa Public Radio is going to be the local media sponsor for the 2009/2010 season of The Metropolitan Opera's high-definition broadcasts at movie theaters around the state. DMMO will once again partner with IPR to host the Central Iowa broadcasts at Movies 12 in Ames and Century Theater at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines. The broadcasts will begin in October and we'll list the dates in OPERAzzi and in The News of the Day.

If you are interested in acting as a volunteer host, please contact McB McManus by email at mmcmanus@dmmo.org or by phone at (515) 961-6221.
